Mneme Foundation
The institutional bridge connecting artists and collectors with the world's leading museums — built to accelerate how digital art enters permanent collections.
A new model for how digital art moves from artists and collectors into the permanent collections of the world's great museums.
What We Do
We act as the institutional intermediary between artists, collectors, and museums — compressing donation and acquisition timelines that traditionally take months into a fraction of the time, without compromising the rigor of the process.
We work hand in hand with museum curators and institutional leadership to develop comprehensive digital art collection strategies — from vision and sourcing through acquisition, conservation, and the long-term stewardship each work requires to remain meaningful inside a collection.
For artists and collectors whose works belong in a museum, we manage the entire journey — from initial conversations through donation, institutional placement, and ongoing care. We find the right home for each work, and we remain involved to ensure it endures there permanently.
Through international art fair programming and bespoke convenings, we bring together the artists, collectors, curators, and institutional leaders shaping digital art's future — creating the rooms where meaningful relationships, major gifts, and lasting decisions get made.
Organizations We've Worked With
Mneme Foundation has collaborated with and supported some of the most important institutions in contemporary art and digital culture — bringing our model for collection building and institutional development to organizations across the globe.
We are living through one of the most expansive moments in the history of artistic practice. Digital art has shaped a generation — Mneme Foundation exists to make sure that legacy endures for those to come.
About Mneme Foundation
Founded in 2025, Mneme Foundation was built to uplift the digital art community and ensure the most significant works of our era find a permanent home in the world's great museums. Our work spans championing artists, developing institutional collection strategies, and creating the convenings that bring these worlds together.
That mission also means tackling one of the most persistent friction points in digital art philanthropy: the lengthy donation timelines — often months or over a year — that have historically made it difficult for works to reach institutions at the pace the field deserves. As an institutional intermediary, Mneme compresses that process dramatically, without compromising the rigor that makes a gift permanent.
The Foundation's name draws on Mneme, the ancient Greek muse of memory — and intentionally echoes the word "meme," the vernacular currency of digital culture. Born from the founders' experience building LACMA Digital Leaders, Mneme was created to extend that model's ambitions to institutions worldwide.
We are collectors, artists, curators, and institutional partners who believe in the extraordinary impact digital art has had over the last decades — and we're committed to deepening that story across every part of the art world.
Meet the Curatorial Council →How We Work
Mneme operates across four interconnected programs — each designed to serve institutions and artists at different stages of the collection-building journey.
Working hand in hand with museum and institutional curators to build meaningful permanent digital art collections — from defining the collection vision and sourcing works, to managing acquisition and providing long-term stewardship of every piece held.
For artists and collectors whose works deserve a permanent institutional home, Mneme manages the entire journey — identifying the right institution, handling the donation process, and maintaining an active stewardship relationship with the museum long after the gift is complete.
Through LACMA Digital Leaders — the patron group Mneme Foundation established and continues to power — we produce annual symposiums at Art Basel Miami Beach, Frieze Los Angeles, Art Basel Hong Kong, and other major art fair moments, gathering 150–300 artists, curators, collectors, and institutional leaders per event.
Mneme Foundation has the ability to underwrite artists' projects so they can focus entirely on the work — removing the financial barriers between a digital artist and their next significant creation. Some of those works are then gifted to Mneme, which stewards them to the institutions best positioned to hold them permanently.
Flagship Program
A permanent collection is a commitment — to an artist, to a medium, and to the audiences who will experience that work for decades to come.
Mneme Foundation exists to ensure the most significant digital artworks of our era find their rightful home in the permanent collections of great museums — and that those institutions have the knowledge, relationships, and support to build collections that genuinely endure. That mission also means removing one of the most persistent friction points in digital art philanthropy: the gap between a collector or artist who wants to give, and the museum that deserves to receive. Traditional donation processes can take months or over a year. We compress that timeline dramatically — without sacrificing the institutional rigor that makes a gift permanent.
Digital works in a permanent collection require more than a transaction. They require ongoing technical stewardship, conservation frameworks, documentation, and the curatorial context that keeps the work meaningful as the surrounding technology evolves. Mneme remains an active partner through all of it — not just at the moment of acquisition, but for the life of the collection.
We bring the artist relationships, the institutional knowledge, and the expertise across every form of digital practice. The institution brings its vision and curatorial authority. Together, we build collections that genuinely last.
01
Working closely with a museum's curatorial team to define the scope, focus, and character of the digital collection — grounded in the institution's existing holdings, programming vision, and the artists and practices most meaningful to their community.
02
Drawing on Mneme's relationships across the full spectrum of digital art — generative and algorithmic practice, on-chain work, AI-driven creation, immersive installation — to identify and acquire the right artists and works for a collection built to endure.
03
Mneme remains an active partner long after acquisition — providing technical stewardship, conservation support, documentation, and the ongoing curatorial context that keeps digital works meaningful, accessible, and alive as the surrounding technology continues to evolve.
If your museum or institution is thinking about digital art's place in your permanent collection, we want to talk.
Start the ConversationThe Program We Power
Established in 2023 and guided by LACMA CEO Michael Govan, LACMA Digital Leaders is the patron group Mneme Foundation established — and continues to build and operate — to position LACMA as the world's leading institutional home for digital art.
LDL represents a new model of collaborative museum patronage: members work directly with curators, museum leadership, and collection care teams to guide priorities, support key initiatives, and shape how digital work is collected, preserved, and presented at one of the world's great museums.
Each annual symposium draws 150 to 300 attendees — artists, collectors, curators, institutional leaders, and technologists — across events at Art Basel Miami Beach, Frieze Los Angeles, and Art Basel Hong Kong.

Proof of Concept
In Mneme Foundation's inaugural year, we facilitated the donation of more than 200 digital artworks — valued in excess of $8 million — to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. It is the largest donation of digital art in museum history.
The collection spans six decades of the medium, from pioneering computer works of the 1960s through the NFT era, and includes works by artists including Keith Haring, Refik Anadol, Beeple, Tyler Hobbs, Frank Stella, Harold Cohen, Vera Molnár, Rebecca Allen, Manfred Mohr, Dmitri Cherniak, Casey Reas, and more than thirty additional artists across six continents.
This donation is Mneme Foundation's inaugural major act — and a proof of concept for a new model of digital art philanthropy, with ambitions well beyond a single institution.
